COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Advisory – updated 13.03.2020


COVID–19 Update: Statement from the Irish Amateur Wrestling Association regarding the

COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the impact on upcoming meetings, competitions, training sessions and events.


The IAWA continues to closely monitor the Covid – 19 situation and the advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team, HSE and the WHO.

The IAWA has decided in line with official advice, the following:

  • Wrestling Training Sessions: All Wrestling training sessions are to be postponed from 6pm 12th March – 29th March 2020 Please take advise from local Public Health Agency which is regularly updated on their website Click Here

  • All events indoor over 100+ and outdoor 500+ should be postponed between 6pm 12th March – 29th March 2020. Due to the physical nature of wrestling, we are advising suspension of all contact sport regardless of number stated above.

  • All Wrestling competitions and courses will be postponed between from 6pm 12th March – 29th March 2020

We understand that this decision will result in inconvenience and disappointment to many of our members, volunteers and parents. However, we all know we must take this decision with the best interests of our members, volunteers, our families and the wider community.

This situation is continually changing, and we continue to monitor changes to the advices and decisions of the government daily.

We will continue to assess the situation and will continue to advise you.
